Transfer gossip: Arsenal ‘chase’ second West Ham star after Rice; Man Utd renege on Ten Hag ‘promise’?

Arsenal want one of Declan Rice’s West Ham teammates to join him at the Emirates, while Man Utd may have to break a ‘promise’ to have someone in goal next season.

A SIDE WITH RICE
Arsenal are reportedly keen on a shock move for a second West Ham star after Declan Rice.

The Gunners are expected to complete their club-record move for Rice in the coming days having agreed a £105m fee with West Ham for their skipper.

Arsenal are set to pay £100m up front with £5m in add-ons for the midfielder, which represents the highest fee spent on a British player and the second-most expensive deal in Premier League history after Chelsea’s signing of Enzo Fernandez.

The West Ham Way (via Express) reckon he could be joined at the Emirates by versatile defender Ben Johnson, who’s valued at around £9m.

The 23-year-old – who came through the West Ham academy – has been far from a consistent starter under David Moyes, playing 23 Premier League games last term.

He would be no more than a squad player under Mikel Arteta, but could be available on the cheap given his contract expires in 2024, and would provide useful backup across the backline as he can operate both at full-back and centre-back.

TEN HAG PROMISE
Manchester United have offered €40m (£34m) for Andre Onana but Inter want €60m (£52m). We’ve been here before.

Corriere dello Sport claim the Serie A giants would be willing to accept €50m with the remainder in add-ons, but as is the United way, they will surely come in with another lowball offer.

It’s believed that after the Mason Mount deal Erik ten Hag has just £65m left to play with, which won’t be enough to sign a top goalkeeper and a striker of any repute. Harry Maguire to the rescue?

Anyway, should they fail to land Onana they will be breaking a ‘promise’ made to Ten Hag, who is desperate to land the Cameroon international.

A UNITED TRAPP
Mirror certainly claim that to be the case, reporting that the Red Devils have ‘walked away from the negotiating table’, though they said the same about Mount.

‘United have been left with no other option but to pursue cheaper alternatives,’ the report states.

Saturday’s gossip revealed an interest in Feyenoord’s £13m stopper Justin Bijlow, while Express claim United and Ten Hag retain an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp, who was linked with a move to Old Trafford last summer and again in January.

Indeed, the German released a statement last August confirming he had rejected a “written offer” from United in favour of Frankfurt.

Given the No.1 spot is now open though, Trapp may decide the time is right for a move to the Red Devils.
