Transfer gossip: Chelsea to splurge £200m-plus on Cucurella, De Jong and more

Chelsea are about to spend a shedload of money, with one new name emerging amid the usual links with Cucurella and co.

CHELSEA CHASE PAIR
Chelsea have made an offer ‘in excess’ of £50m for Brighton left-back Marc Cucurella, according to The Athletic. You might think that would be enough but apparently Brighton want a) more money and b) a replacement. The latter might be easy to come by as Chelsea are separately negotiating with them about Levi Colwill, with Chelsea likely to insist on a buy-back clause.

Personal terms have been agreed with Cucurella himself and ‘there is confidence at Stamford Bridge’ that the deal can be completed.

There is also said to be ‘optimistic’ of signing Frenkie de Jong, who clearly does not want to join Manchester United despite them agreeing a fee of around £71m for the Dutchman. Chelsea are in conversations with Barcelona, who clearly just want rid so they can pay for and register the players they have already somehow bought.

CHELSEA NOT FINISHED THERE…
Thomas Tuchel wants more and more and the newest name linked with Chelsea is Southampton right-back Kyle Walker-Peters, who can also play on the left. He would offer competition and cover for England pair Reece James and Ben Chilwell on both flanks.

It is hoped that £35m would be enough to tempt Southampton to sell – according to The Guardian – though the Saints themselves might ask for more than £40m as KWP is a key player for them.

There is also persistent talk of a move for Wesley Fofana. Leicester insist he is not for sale but Chelsea want to test that resolve and the player himself is apparently keen to make the switch.

Chelsea will have to lose some players to make room. Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta could leave for Barcelona, Malang Sarr for Monaco and Colwill to either Brighton or Leicester.

ANTONY WANTS MANCHESTER UNITED MOVE
Frenkie de Jong might be reluctant but Ajax striker Antony is very keen on joining Manchester United, according to

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook said: “It’s 50/50 at this stage. Ten Hag is very keen. The player wants to come, but Ajax are in quite a strong position because they’ve already raised money by selling Martinez and Haller, so they don’t need to sell him on the cheap.”

The price is said to be £84m and we have to say that is a ludicrous amount of money for a player who has not proved himself outside the Eredivisie. We suspect Manchester United will rattle on with Anthony Martial, Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford for now, with Cristiano Ronaldo putting in the odd cameo appearance.
