Former Players and European Stars Top the Shortlist as Ten Hag Seeks to Reshape Red Devils Squad
Manchester United’s manager, Erik ten Hag, is on a mission to recreate the Ajax magic at Old Trafford, with reports suggesting a winter transfer window filled with familiar faces and promising talents.
A MAN UTD ‘DREAM’ COME TRUE
Despite a less-than-stellar start to his Manchester United career, winger Antony’s €95 million signing hasn’t deterred ten Hag from pursuing Ajax players. Following the success of Lisandro Martinez, the manager is now keen on another former Ajax star, Brian Brobbey, to bolster the squad.
The 21-year-old striker, who once expressed his “dream” to play for United, is back on the radar. Despite Ajax blocking his transfer previously, reports from Sky Germany suggest that ten Hag is eager to reignite the interest in Brobbey during the winter window.
Sky Germany reporter Florian Plettenberg revealed, “Understand that Ten Hag has the idea to sign Brobbey in winter! Brobbey and ManUtd, it was a hot topic last summer… At the latest in the next summer window, a transfer will be a topic again if Ten Hag stays as the coach.”
Joining Brobbey on the shortlist is Bologna striker Joshua Zirkze, making it clear that ten Hag is actively working towards strengthening the attacking options at Manchester United.
ON DE LIGT
To complete his Ajax ensemble, ten Hag has set his sights on Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutch center-back, once a key player for Ajax in their remarkable Champions League run, is reportedly unhappy with his current situation at Bayern Munich.
With potential defensive reshuffling at Old Trafford, ESPN reports that de Ligt’s name is near the top of United’s shortlist. The club is looking to revamp its defense, with Victor Lindelof, Jonny Evans, Raphael Varane, and potentially Harry Maguire on the way out at the end of the season.
Metro indicates that Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite and Nice star Jean-Clair Todibo are also among United’s top center-back targets.
PICKING OFF THE MAGPIES
In the midst of these transfer pursuits, Kieran Trippier has been given the green light to join Bayern Munich. Newcastle, however, is reluctant to lose their first-choice right-back, who has been a standout performer in the Premier League this season.
Simultaneously, Newcastle’s financial constraints have attracted interest from Atletico Madrid, who have approached the Magpies with a loan proposal for striker Callum Wilson. Although rejected, there are indications that Newcastle could be open to a permanent deal for Wilson, as they grapple with Financial Fair Play limitations.
As the transfer window unfolds, Manchester United’s ambitious plans and the potential Ajax reunion under ten Hag continue to be the focus of attention.
