Transfer gossip: Man Utd demand scuppered Sancho deal, Liverpool bid £100m for Newcastle star

Manchester United could have parked Jadon Sancho in Saudi for the season but a ridiculous demand scuppered the deal. Also: Liverpool offered £100m for another Prem midfielder…

UNITED DEMAND ENDED SANCHO DEAL
We suggested earlier this week that Jadon Sancho had two choices: Turkey or Saudi. One of those options is no longer on the table, but it isn’t for the lack of trying.

The Daily Mail says Steven Gerrard’s Al-Ettifaq tried to sign the Manchester United winger on loan shortly before the Pro League transfer deadline. Sancho could use an escape route out of Old Trafford, if only for the short term, after clashing with Erik ten Hag. The manager suggested he has been phoning it in at training; the player says he’s been made a scapegoat. For what, we’re not entirely sure.

A loan deal would have suited all parties but, as they so often do, United screwed themselves. The Red Devils were willing to let Sancho move to Saudi on loan for the rest of the season but only if the deal included an obligation for Al-Ettifaq to buy the winger next summer for £50million. Which even the Saudis know is a ridiculous price.

Earlier in the summer, it was suggested that United would accept £45million for Sancho – his value has surely fallen since then – and Chelsea were said to have taken a look but opted to sign Cole Palmer from Manchester City instead.

LIVERPOOL OFFERED £100M FOR MAGPIES MIDFIELDER
Liverpool spent their summer chasing midfielders amid a bigger-than-expected rebuild of Jurgen Klopp’s engine room.

They secured two early deals in Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai, but then lost their minds slightly when pursuing Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia. They were pipped to both by Chelsea before eventually settling for Ryan Gravenberch.

Before moving for the Netherlands star, though, it seems Liverpool approached Newcastle to offer them Caicedo money for one of their midfielders.

AS claims the Reds put £100million on the Toon table in the last days of the window in an effort to land Bruno Guimaraes. But the Magpies refused to do business while they prepare for life back in the Champions League.

REDS, TOON JOIN SPURS IN KELLY CHASE
Liverpool and Newcastle are both now being linked – tentatively – with a move for Lloyd Kelly.

Tottenham were said to have failed with a late summer move for the Bournemouth defender with the Cherries, quite rightly, turning down £20million for the 24-year-old.

Now 90min reckons Spurs could move again in January, when they will be rivalled by the Reds and the Magpies.
