Transfer gossip: Postecoglou wants Sancho at Spurs as Ten Hag sets £60m ‘high priority’ at Man Utd

Ange wants Sancho at Spurs for £50m as Man Utd look to stump up funds for Erik ten Hag’s ‘high priority’ signing this summer.

SANCHO TO SPURS
Reports last week claimed Jadon Sancho had been told by Manchester United that his time at Old Trafford was up, with Borussia Dortmund leading the charge to re-sign the England itnernational.

BILD claimed Sancho ‘wants to return to Dortmund’ and ‘Manchester United are said to have already informed him that he will have to leave the club in the summer’.

Sancho is looking to ‘flee as soon as possible’ and Dortmund director Sebastian Kehl ‘is always in contact with his advisors from the Project Elite Group’.

But Sancho is also now being linked with Tottenham, with new manager Ange Postecoglou ‘an admirer’, according to Mirror.

The report also states that United would be willing to accept offers of around £50m for the 23-year-old, who eventually made his way to the Red Devils for £73m in the summer of 2021.

The rumour comes after The Sun claimed Erik ten Hag sat down with Sancho, as he did with all of United’s stars in one-to-one meetings, to outline the forward’s role at the club.

That report claimed Sancho is part of Ten Hag’s plans, though the Dutch boss warned him that he needs to more consistently prove his worth.

COSTA CLAUSE
We’re still waiting for official confirmation of David de Gea’s new contract, but Ten Hag wants to press ahead to sign a new goalkeeper regardless, and though various reports have seen them linked with young backups for De Gea, interest in Diogo Costa would suggest they want a new No.1.

According to A Bola (via Sport Witness), United are serious about their interest in the Porto star, who has a €75m release clause in his contract.

And they will have to pay that release clause as Pinto da Costa, the club president, will refuse to negotiate his price.

United are thought to be hesitant to commit such a sum on the goalkeeper with other areas of the squad also in need of reinforcement, and a move for Costa will likely depend on player sales.

MOUNTING PRIORITY
Mason Mount is a ‘high priority’ for Ten Hag this summer as United look to take advantage of the midfielder’s contract standoff with Chelsea.

Reports suggest the Blues want as much as £85m for their academy graduate, but Ben Jacobs claims the Red Devils won’t stretch beyond £60m.

Jacobs said: “This is a high priority for Erik ten Hag, but Manchester United are adamant that they need to be disciplined with Mount, they need to try and get him for under £60m and that, as I’ve said before, is because Manchester United’s transfer policy is restricted.

“And if they are to bring in a couple of early players, then they’re going to have to try and distribute their budget to allow that to happen rather than using it all up on one player.

“And this is the frustration of Manchester United’s early part of the summer. Even with Champions League football, which will increase the budget, the financial fair play cycle that they are in and the ownership uncertainty are still going to make it relatively difficult for Manchester United to move comparative to some of their rivals.”
