PSG are doing everything they can to spoil Manchester United’s chances of landing Rasmus Hojlund, while a £15million difference isn’t putting Liverpool off Romeo Lavia…
HOJLUND OFFERED MORE BY PSG
Manchester United’s pre-season defeat to Real Madrid once again highlighted their all-consuming need for a striker. Erik ten Hag wants one in ‘as soon as possible’ and Rasmus Hojlund is the one he craves most. At least of those United consider to be attainable.
The problem with Hojlund is that Atalanta recognise United’s desperation. They reek of it. So the Italians are determined to wring every possible euro out of the Red Devils by demanding £86million when United are only willing to spend £60million – which seems like a reasonable amount for such an unproven striker.
Another issue is PSG’s interest in Hojlund. The Parisians look likely to need a forward to replace Kylian Mbappe – even if the France star isn’t interested in taking the Saudi coin – and word is they are willing to go slightly higher than United in the bidding. Gianluca Di Marzio says PSG are also prepared to offer Hojlund a higher salary in an effort to distract him from Ten Hag’s advances.
CHELSEA TO LOAN LUKAKU AMID DYBALA SNUB
It’s not clear to what extent sales are linked with Chelsea’s recruitment plans for the rest of the summer. Regardless, though, of whatever need there may be to raise funds, they need to shift Romelu Lukaku, ideally before Mauricio Pochettino and his squad return to Cobham from their pre-season tour.
Lukaku was back at Chelsea after the Blues departed for USA and the hope was that a swift exit could arranged. But the striker burned his bridges with Inter Milan, leaving Juventus as his only viable option, even if the Juve fans have made it clear they don’t want him.
Still, the Old Lady seems to be carrying on regardless. Calciomercato says Juve’s sporting director Cristiano Giuntoli will head to London to negotiate a loan deal – another one – for the 30-year-old.
Chelsea had hoped to bolster their own attacking options by signing Paulo Dybala. But Tuttomercatoweb says the Blues have become the latest Premier League club to be pied by the Argentina star after he committed to a new contract with Roma.
LIVERPOOL TO BID AGAIN FOR LAVIA
Chelsea, amid a dearth of midfielders, were also known to be keen on Romeo Lavia. But it would appear that Liverpool have barged their way to the front of the queue for the Southampton star.
The Reds have had an opening offer rejected by Saints and The Telegraph says the two clubs are currently £15million apart in their valuations of the 19-year-old, with £52million currently the asking price. The Athletic insists Liverpool remain undeterred and they will bid again.
They can raise £40million of that by selling Fabinho to Al-Ittihad. That move looked to be in jeopardy but The Times says talks have re-started and are expected to conclude in a deal.
