Ronaldo has reached the point where he has no option but the very rich option while a Manchester United target will join Newcastle…

‘The outcome has never been so close,’ say Foot Mercato, who say that Ronaldo is edging towards accepting a ludicrous €200 million per season for three years in Saudi Arabia with Al Nassr. That really is an astonishing amount of money.

There’s no doubt that Ronaldo wanted to stay in elite football but there has been no contact from Chelsea or Sporting in recent weeks so the man-child has had to accept that the next best thing to being in the Champions League is earning a massive amount of money in the Middle East.

There was some talk of Manchester United buying French striker Marcus Thuram to replace Cristiano Ronaldo but BILD claim that it’s Newcastle United who are close to agreeing a deal with Borussia Mönchengladbach for a player who has scored 10 Bundesliga goals this season.

The price is a bargain £10m because Thuram is out of contract in the summer so the German club is just happy to recoup the fee they paid Guingamp back in the summer of 2019. It’s a very sensible deal for a club acting way too sensibly for our liking.

Barcelona have more than a passing interest in Arsenal’s Brazilian forward Gabriel Martinelli but SPORT say that he has decided to renew his contract with the Gunners rather than pursue a transfer to La Liga.

Martinelli’s current deal runs out in 2024 but talks have accelerated in recent weeks and he is close to agreeing a deal on improved terms to stay with the club until 2027. That is quite the coup for Arsenal, who are likely to play Martinelli in a more central role after Gabriel Jesus got injured at the World Cup.

Of course Juventus have a contract ready for Jorginho if he does not sign a new deal with Chelsea. Of course they do. The only thing remotely surprising about the report in Calciomercato is that the Italian midfielder would actually prefer to stay with the Blues.

His contract expires at the end of the season along with that of N’Golo Kante but surely Chelsea will keep only one of them beyond this season. Juventus will presumably take the other because Juventus.
