Sporting CP star attracts interest from Europe’s elite but remains focused on current club.
Sporting CP forward Viktor Gyökeres has reportedly declined offers from both Arsenal and Manchester United, according to Spanish outlet El Nacional. The 26-year-old Sweden international has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after players and is expected to leave the Portuguese side next summer amid widespread interest.
Premier League Giants Rejected
Arsenal and Manchester United, seen as the frontrunners in the race for Gyökeres, have apparently failed to secure his commitment. This development has reportedly caught the attention of Barcelona president Joan Laporta, who views Gyökeres as a potential future signing despite Robert Lewandowski’s exceptional form this season.
However, Barcelona’s sporting director Deco downplayed the urgency of pursuing Gyökeres, stating:
“Gyökeres is a good player. He has been scoring goals for some time in Portugal. We know him, as we know others, but he’s not a priority for us right now. When the time comes to make a decision, we will consider all options.”
A Remarkable Season
Gyökeres has been in sensational form, contributing to 41 goals in just 25 matches for club and country this season. His performances have also drawn interest from Chelsea, adding to speculation about his future.
Gyökeres Stays Grounded
Despite the transfer rumors, Gyökeres remains focused on his current club and has brushed off speculation about an imminent move.
“These are just rumors—nothing concrete,” Gyökeres told reporters. “Of course, I want to finish the season at Sporting. I enjoy my time here and don’t feel stressed about making a change. We’ll see what happens in the future.”
The striker also expressed gratitude to former Sporting manager Rúben Amorim, who recently left to manage Manchester United. “It’s sad that he left, but we understand his decision. He meant a lot to me, giving me an opportunity and helping me grow as a player.”
What’s Next?
With Gyökeres committed to Sporting for now, Europe’s top clubs may have to wait until summer 2025 to make their moves. In the meantime, his incredible form continues to turn heads across the footballing world.
