Fresh from a Historic Season, Star Winger Faces Tough Choice Over Lower Salary, Higher Bonuses
After a year of individual and collective triumph, Ousmane Dembélé’s future at Paris Saint-Germain has hit an unexpected stumbling block. The French winger, who lifted the Ballon d’Or and FIFA’s The Best award after inspiring PSG to a historic treble, now faces a challenging contract renewal under the club’s new financial policy.

Despite having a contract until 2028, PSG has moved early to secure Dembélé long-term. However, according to Le Parisien, negotiations have become complicated due to a significant shift in the club’s approach. In an effort to maintain healthier finances, PSG’s leadership—led by president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi—is now offering key players, including Dembélé, a reduced base salary supplemented by larger performance-based bonuses.
This model presents a particular concern for the 27-year-old, whose career has been interrupted by spells of injury. Relying more heavily on bonuses for income could prove financially risky. The situation echoes the recent departure of goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who left for Manchester City after similar renewal talks broke down.
As talks continue, the coming weeks will reveal whether the club and its star can find common ground, or if PSG’s new fiscal discipline will cost them one of the world’s top players.
