The Nigerian forward’s stellar form attracts interest from Europe’s elite, including the Gunners
Arsenal are reportedly preparing to make a summer move for Atalanta’s in-form winger Ademola Lookman, with the Serie A side valuing the Nigerian international at €50 million.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Atalanta have signaled their willingness to let Lookman leave for a bigger club at the end of the season if their valuation is met. However, the Italian club has ruled out a January transfer for the player.
Lookman’s Breakthrough Year
Lookman has enjoyed a sensational 2024, cementing his status as one of Europe’s most admired talents. His standout moment came in the Europa League final, where he scored a hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
This calendar year, Lookman has contributed more goals and assists in all competitions than any other Serie A player, highlighting his importance to Atalanta and his rising profile across Europe.
Summer Drama and PSG Interest
Earlier this year, Paris Saint-Germain came close to signing Lookman, with the player reportedly agreeing to personal terms on a lucrative deal worth €5 million annually until 2029.
However, Atalanta were left frustrated when Lookman requested a transfer late in the summer window, forcing the club to omit him from their opening Serie A game. Despite the breakdown of the deal, Lookman was reintegrated into the squad and has since delivered exceptional performances.
Arsenal’s Interest and Offensive Overhaul
Arsenal are now seen as frontrunners in the race to secure Lookman’s signature. The Gunners are looking to revitalize their attacking options following a challenging start to the season that has seen them slip out of the title race.
Mikel Arteta reportedly views Lookman as the ideal left-wing addition for his 4-2-3-1 formation. With Leandro Trossard likely to depart in January and Gabriel Martinelli struggling for form, Arsenal are eager to bring in fresh attacking talent.
Stellar Start to the Season
Lookman’s performances this season have been nothing short of extraordinary. The 26-year-old has registered eight goals and five assists in 13 appearances for Atalanta, including standout displays against top opponents.
Two weeks ago, Lookman netted twice in a 3-0 win against league leaders Napoli, followed by another goal in Atalanta’s 2-0 Champions League victory over Stuttgart.
The Road Ahead
While Arsenal have shown serious interest, competition for Lookman’s signature is expected to be fierce. The Gunners will need to meet Atalanta’s €50 million asking price to secure the services of one of Europe’s most sought-after players.
