Transfer Rumours: Arsenal Teenager Ethan Nwaneri Could Join Marseille on Loan

18-year-old prospect seeks playing time as clubs negotiate temporary move; Gunners hold firm on future.

Arsenal is in talks with Marseille over a potential loan move for teenage midfielder Ethan Nwaneri, as the highly-rated 18-year-old pushes for more first-team football this season.

While the situation remains fluid, a deal is taking shape that would see Nwaneri spend the remainder of the campaign in France. Notably, the arrangement would not include an option for Marseille to buy, with Arsenal instead set to receive a loan fee. The England youth international is understood to be traveling with the Arsenal squad for their Champions League match against Inter Milan at the San Siro, where manager Mikel Arteta may face questions about the youngster’s future.

Nwaneri’s search for minutes comes after reported interest from several clubs, including West Ham, during the January window. When asked about a potential loan just weeks ago, Arteta offered a measured response, leaving the door open. “Every player has a role, that role can change throughout the season… and everybody has to be ready to play,” he said.

Despite Arsenal’s injury issues in attack this season, opportunities have been scarce for Nwaneri. He was once again left out of the matchday squad for the weekend draw against Nottingham Forest, even as he continues to train and travel with the senior team. With established options like Martin Ødegaard, Kai Havertz, and Eberechi Eze ahead of him, a temporary move abroad could provide the regular football he needs to continue his development.
