Reds May Trigger £65m Release Clause as Striker Crisis Forces Transfer Rethink
Liverpool are considering a swift January move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo as they grapple with the potentially long-term absence of record signing Alexander Isak, according to reports.
The Reds fear their £130 million striker suffered a broken leg in Saturday’s win over Tottenham, an injury that could sideline the Swede for several months. Faced with a sudden attacking crisis, the Anfield hierarchy may now accelerate their interest in Semenyo.
The Ghana international, who has impressed with eight goals in 16 matches this season, has a £65 million release clause in his contract. The Telegraph reports that clause becomes active next month but carries a tight deadline, expiring on January 10. The 24-year-old is also understood to be on the radar of both Manchester City and Manchester United, setting up a potential bidding battle.
With Isak’s severe injury forcing a major rethink, Liverpool’s planned January activity is expected to shift from opportunistic to urgent as they seek to maintain their push for a top-five Premier League finish.
