Manchester United’s pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain left-back Nuno Mendes is gaining momentum as uncertainty looms over the player’s contract renewal with the French champions.
The 22-year-old Portugal international has been a key performer for Luis Enrique’s side this season, contributing two goals and two assists in 17 appearances. Although Mendes was expected to sign a new deal with PSG in late 2024, negotiations have been unexpectedly delayed, fueling speculation about a potential transfer.
United manager Ruben Amorim is reportedly in the market for an attacking left wing-back to bolster his squad, and Mendes has emerged as a prime target. With an Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of €39 million, a move seems feasible. Mendes’ current contract runs until 2026, but PSG risks losing leverage as time ticks down, increasing the likelihood of summer offers.
Adding to the intrigue, PSG is reportedly exploring contingency plans. Spanish outlet Relevo suggests that Luis Enrique is eyeing Barcelona’s Alejandro Balde as a potential replacement for Mendes.
The report states:
“Nuno Mendes has a contract with PSG until 2026 and has not yet renewed. Talks are stalled, and the shadow of Manchester United looms over him. PSG is following the profile of Barcelona player Alejandro Balde as a hypothetical option for June.”
While negotiations for Mendes’ renewal remain at a standstill, PSG’s preparatory moves highlight the growing uncertainty surrounding his future. For Manchester United, this could signal an opportunity to secure one of Europe’s most promising left-backs, though any deal will likely wait until the summer.
