The former Chelsea star is willing to sacrifice the majority of his Saudi salary to join the Turkish club, with talks underway.
Midfield maestro N’Golo Kanté is prepared to slash his enormous salary by a staggering 80% to force a move to Fenerbahce from Saudi Arabia’s Al-Ittihad.
The beloved 34-year-old French international, who left Chelsea in 2023, appears determined to return to a competitive European stage. Despite winning a domestic double in Saudi Arabia last season and Al-Ittihad’s desire to extend his contract, Kanté’s heart seems set on a new challenge in Turkey.
His motivation is clear. After a standout performance for France at Euro 2024 reignited his spark on the big stage, the tireless midfielder is eager to recapture that feeling. Last summer, Premier League clubs circled, and now Fenerbahce have emerged as his preferred destination.
According to prominent football insiders Fabrizio Romano and Florian Plettenberg, the Turkish club is pushing hard for a deal.
While it’s uncertain if a move will happen this January or in the summer when his contract expires, Kanté’s personal terms are not the obstacle.
Plettenberg reports that Fenerbahce frankly told the veteran they could not match his current wages. In response, Kanté willingly agreed to reduce his financial demands by a breathtaking 70 to 80 percent, proving his priority is the project, not the paycheck.
The final hurdle remains Al-Ittihad’s reluctance to sell. While Fenerbahce are in talks with the Saudi club, convincing them to release a player of Kanté’s caliber mid-season is a significant challenge. Whether a deal is struck now or he arrives as a free agent in the summer, one thing is certain: N’Golo Kanté is ready to trade fortune for football.
