Real Madrid is reportedly preparing a £20 million bid to sign Liverpool vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold during the January transfer window. However, Liverpool remains firm in their stance to retain the star right-back as they pursue Premier League and Champions League glory this season.
According to The Telegraph, the La Liga giants are willing to spend up to €25 million to tempt Liverpool into parting with Alexander-Arnold. Despite this, the Premier League leaders prioritize their title ambitions over a transfer fee for such a key player.
“Liverpool’s position is that any fee they might receive is secondary to their goal of securing silverware,” the report stated. “Winning the Premier League or a seventh European Cup would bring in comparable prize money to the transfer offer from Real Madrid.”
Alexander-Arnold, whose contract expires at the end of the season, has yet to agree to a new long-term deal with Liverpool. Real Madrid’s interest has cast doubt on the likelihood of the 25-year-old committing his future to Anfield.
Liverpool manager Arne Slot is reportedly keen to keep Alexander-Arnold as a cornerstone of the team, particularly given his leadership role and crucial contributions on the pitch. The club hopes to convince the player to stay, even as speculation around his potential move to Spain intensifies.
