Transfer Gossip: Kalvin Phillips in Demand: Barca, Atletico, Juve, Palace, and West Ham Eye England Midfielder

Phillips faces a two-week window to secure a move, with six top clubs, including Barcelona and Juventus, vying for his services. Meanwhile, Newcastle explores alternatives, and Arsenal leads the race for a Bundesliga assists machine.

In the midst of the January transfer window, England midfielder Kalvin Phillips is the subject of a fierce battle among top European clubs. According to The Telegraph, six major teams, including Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and Juventus, are expressing a keen interest in acquiring Phillips from Manchester City.

While Crystal Palace and West Ham are also in the race, there are suggestions that staying in the Premier League could enhance Phillips’ chances of maintaining his spot in the England national team. Despite the prominence of players like Jordan Henderson opting for moves abroad while still representing England, the report indicates a preference for domestic competition.

Newcastle, having seemingly backed away from the pursuit, is still in the picture but faces the challenge of negotiating with Manchester City to secure Phillips on loan for the remainder of the season. As a result, the Magpies are actively exploring alternatives in Europe.

According to the i, Newcastle’s head of recruitment, Steve Nickson, attended Atalanta’s recent match against Frosinone to assess Brazilian midfielder Ederson. However, Atalanta is reportedly unwilling to consider a loan deal, making a permanent move the only viable option.

In addition, Bild reports that Newcastle inquired about the availability of Bayern Munich’s Joshua Kimmich. Despite Bayern’s willingness to negotiate in the summer, the German star is not interested in a January move.

On a separate front, Arsenal emerges as the frontrunner to sign Xavi Simons, currently on loan at RB Leipzig from PSG. The forward has attracted interest from Bayern, Barcelona, and Inter Milan, but Arsenal is positioned at the forefront if Simons decides to leave PSG permanently.

Meanwhile, Chelsea is exploring solutions for both ends of the pitch. Mauricio Pochettino’s side is reportedly considering a move for Real Madrid’s Andriy Lunin to bolster their goalkeeping options, with Robert Sanchez yet to solidify his role as the long-term number one choice. Lunin, who shares the goalkeeping duties at Real Madrid with Kepa Arrizabalaga, has been previously linked with a move to Stamford Bridge this season.
