Former Chelsea Star Shares Insights into Striker’s Desire to Join Stamford Bridge
Rumors surrounding Victor Osimhen’s potential move to Chelsea have gained momentum, with former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel revealing that the Nigerian striker is eager to join the Premier League club. This comes after transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Chelsea’s pursuit of Osimhen is “absolutely on,” despite ongoing negotiations involving other players.
Chelsea are currently focused on completing a swap deal with Atletico Madrid, which would see Conor Gallagher head to La Liga and Joao Felix return to Stamford Bridge. Additionally, Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Napoli is reportedly close to being finalized. According to Romano, Chelsea is keen to secure Lukaku’s move before advancing talks for Osimhen, with the deals being handled separately.
“On Victor Osimhen and Romelu Lukaku, Chelsea see these cases in a separate way,” Romano stated. “They’re not expected to consider a swap deal. First, they want to sort the future of Romelu Lukaku. That means reaching an agreement with Napoli because they already have an agreement with the player: it’s a three-year contract, the salary’s OK, the conversation is constant.”
Despite the complexities surrounding the potential transfer, Romano insists that the deal for Osimhen “remains absolutely on.” He noted that while talks between Chelsea and Napoli have taken place, discussions with Osimhen himself have yet to reach an advanced stage.
John Obi Mikel, who has exchanged text messages with Osimhen, shared that the striker is enthusiastic about the possibility of joining Chelsea. Speaking on beIN SPORT, Mikel said, “There’s interest from both sides. He wants to come to the club. We’ve had a few text messages here and there. I’ve told him how good the club is and what a fantastic place it is to improve.”
Mikel further emphasized Osimhen’s desire to follow in the footsteps of other Nigerian players who have represented Chelsea, adding, “Chelsea is a massive club, and he would like to follow in the footsteps of other Nigerians to play for Chelsea. I think it’s 60/40 in favor that Osimhen comes.”
