Napoli Striker’s Move to Chelsea Falls Through Amid Salary Dispute
Victor Osimhen will remain at Napoli beyond the transfer deadline, as his highly anticipated move to Chelsea fell apart in the final hours of the window. The Nigerian striker has been one of the most talked-about players of the summer, with Napoli deterring potential buyers by setting a hefty €130 million price tag.
Chelsea pursued Osimhen until the last moments of the transfer window, but the deal ultimately collapsed. Reports indicate that a significant gap existed between what Chelsea was prepared to offer in terms of salary and Osimhen’s expectations. Currently earning €11 million per year at Napoli, Osimhen had previously agreed to personal terms of €12 million per year with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), but that move also failed to materialize due to Napoli’s high demands.
Chelsea’s wage structure, which is centered around smaller salaries on long-term contracts, seemed to be a sticking point. According to sources such as Sky Sports and RMC, Osimhen was unwilling to compromise on his salary expectations, leading to the collapse of the deal. Napoli had been under pressure to sell the striker due to his high wages, especially after signing Romelu Lukaku as a potential replacement.
While a move to Chelsea is off the table, there remains a possibility that Osimhen could join the Saudi Pro League. Al-Ahli has shown interest in the Nigerian international, as well as Brentford striker Ivan Toney. However, with only one free slot available for a foreign signing, Al-Ahli faces the challenge of deciding between Osimhen and Toney, though they have more time to potentially create space for both players.
