West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus Sent Off After Taking Out Three Spurs Players in London Derby Meltdown (video)

Ghanaian forward sees red after altercation with multiple Tottenham players in dramatic 4-1 defeat.

West Ham forward Mohammed Kudus was sent off in extraordinary fashion during a heated London derby against Tottenham Hotspur, after lashing out at multiple Spurs players in a chaotic sequence of events.

Kudus, who had earlier put West Ham ahead in the first half, saw red after a series of incidents that unfolded during the Hammers’ second-half collapse. With his side trailing 4-1 after conceding three goals in just seven minutes, frustration got the better of the Ghana international.

Mohammed Kudus score for West Ham

The drama began when Kudus appeared to kick out at Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, who had fallen onto the ball. This sparked a confrontation in which Kudus pushed Van de Ven in the face, causing the Dutchman to fall. Kudus then accidentally made contact with Richarlison, who theatrically went down clutching his face. In the ensuing chaos, Kudus also shoved Spurs midfielder Pape Matar Sarr in the face, an act initially missed by the referee.

Although Kudus and Van de Ven were both shown yellow cards, a VAR review led to Kudus’ punishment being upgraded to a straight red after referee Andrew Madley reviewed the Sarr incident. The decision left West Ham reduced to 10 men, and Kudus now faces a three-match suspension, missing key fixtures against Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, and Everton.

Despite Kudus’ early heroics, West Ham crumbled in the second half as Tottenham roared back with goals from Yves Bissouma, Jean-Clair Todibo (own goal), and Son Heung-min to seal a 4-1 victory.

West Ham manager Julen Lopetegui, who claimed not to have seen the incident leading to Kudus’ dismissal, acknowledged that VAR had the final say: “I didn’t see the action, but if VAR reviewed it, there must have been reason for the red card.”

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou, who made a tactical change by replacing James Maddison at half-time, praised his side’s second-half performance, which saw them dominate their London rivals. Postecoglou expressed satisfaction with the result, highlighting the energy his team gained from the home crowd as they surged to victory.

The defeat leaves West Ham with only two wins from their first eight Premier League games, while Tottenham continue to recover from their previous loss to Brighton.
