Afrobeats Superstar Sets New Milestone with Record-Breaking Achievements

Nigerian music sensation Ayodeji Balogun, popularly known as Wizkid, has achieved a historic milestone, becoming the first African artist to surpass 8 billion streams on Spotify.

The streaming numbers encompass both his solo projects and collaborations, with his global hit “One Dance,” featuring Canadian superstar Drake, leading the charge with over 2 billion streams. The track, which holds the Guinness World Record as the first song to hit 1 billion streams on Spotify, remains a defining moment in Wizkid’s career.

Wizkid’s fourth studio album, Made In Lagos (Deluxe), has also contributed significantly to his streaming success, amassing nearly 1 billion plays on the platform.

In a close second among African artists, fellow Nigerian artist Burna Boy has reached 7.2 billion Spotify streams, solidifying his position as one of the continent’s most celebrated musicians. Burna Boy also holds the title of the most-followed Afrobeats artist on the platform.

These achievements highlight the global rise of Afrobeats and the enduring influence of African artists on the international music scene.
