Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka has made damning allegations against the leadership of the Labour Party (LP), claiming they deliberately misrepresented the outcome of the 2023 polls, in which Peter Obi participated, by attempting to force lies upon the Nigerian populace.
Soyinka, a prominent literary figure and social critic, did not mince words when he asserted, “I can say categorically that Peter Obi’s party came third, not even second, and the leadership knew it, but they want to do what we call in Yoruba ‘gbajue,’ that is the force of lies.”
The Nobel laureate’s statement casts doubt on the accuracy of the information being disseminated by the Labour Party regarding the election results. Peter Obi, a prominent political figure, was a key contender in the 2023 polls, and the outcome of the election has been a topic of intense discussion.
Soyinka went further to accuse the LP leadership of attempting to mobilize young people to protest against the election’s outcome using what he described as the “banner of lies and deceit.”
