Real Madrid boss hints he will block a January loan move for the young Brazilian, who is desperate for more playing time.
In a tense situation at the Bernabéu, a clash is emerging between a young star’s World Cup dreams and his manager’s squad plans. Real Madrid boss Xabi Alonso has hinted he may block a January loan move for Endrick, even as the 19-year-old Brazilian forward grows increasingly frustrated on the bench.
The teenager’s desperation for playing time was visibly on display during Real Madrid’s narrow 1-0 win over Getafe last weekend. According to Spanish reports, Endrick kicked a bottle in anger after he was overlooked as a late substitute, with teammates Brahim Diaz and Gonzalo Garcia being sent on instead. This marked the sixth consecutive match in which he has been an unused substitute, having yet to make a single appearance this season after returning from an early injury.
His frustration is understandable. With an eye on securing a spot in Brazil’s squad for next summer’s World Cup, Endrick is keen for regular football. This has put elite clubs across Europe on high alert, with Manchester United, Juventus, Newcastle, and West Ham all reportedly interested in a loan deal. French side Marseille have also entered the race, seeing him as a potential short-term replacement for forwards departing for the Africa Cup of Nations.
However, Manager Xabi Alonso has now publicly poured cold water on the growing speculation. When asked directly about the possibility of a January loan for Endrick, Alonso was non-committal.
“Endrick on loan? We’re not at that point yet,” Alonso told reporters. “The competition in attack is intense… Endrick, Gonzalo, and Brahim have to be ready. They’re going to come in, and have to be ready. This is the elite, and we need a lot of good players.”
The comments suggest Alonso values the young striker as part of his immediate plans, setting up a pivotal period for Endrick, who will be hoping his patience is rewarded with his first minutes of the season in the upcoming Champions League match against Juventus.
