Xavi Signals Interest in Manchester United Job Amid Pressure on Ten Hag

Former Barcelona manager drops subtle hint, fueling speculation of possible move to Old Trafford

Manchester United’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham on Sunday has intensified scrutiny on manager Erik ten Hag, and former Barcelona boss Xavi may be showing signs of interest in the role. Xavi, who is currently unattached after departing Barcelona this past summer, subtly hinted at his openness to the job when his wife shared an Instagram story of him with his son, who wore a Manchester United shirt.

The 44-year-old Spaniard, an icon in Barcelona’s midfield during his playing days, launched his coaching career with Al-Sadd in Qatar, where he spent two years and achieved notable success, winning 66 of his 96 games in charge. His anticipated return to Barcelona as a manager came in November 2021, where he led the club to a La Liga title in 2022-23 despite financial challenges. Known for his focus on youth development, Xavi was instrumental in introducing young talents like Lamine Yamal and Alejandro Balde to the first team.

After a period of reflection, he chose not to renew his contract with Barcelona. Now, with Ten Hag under mounting pressure, Xavi’s blend of tactical pragmatism and a talent-focused approach has made him a serious candidate for the potential vacancy at Old Trafford.
