YouTube prankster claims responsibility as Lineker responds to BBC sex noises

A YouTube prankster has claimed responsibility for the sex noises playing out in the BBC studio during their coverage of Liverpool’s FA Cup clash against Wolves on Tuesday.

Host Gary Lineker and pundits Danny Murphy and Paul Ince attempted to ignore the sex noises as they continued to be heard throughout the opening segment, up to the point they handed over to the commentary team at Molineux.

Lineker tweeted a picture of the source of the problem soon after the game had begun. Someone had stuck a phone to the back of a seat in the studio.

Well-known YouTuber Daniel Jarvis, or Jarvo, quickly claimed responsibility for the sabotage, uploading a video of him in the BBC studio before kick-off, then another one of him calling the phone that had been rigged with a ringtone of porn sounds.

He wrote on Twitter: “Yes, it was me that pranked the BBC Match of the Day with the sex Phone The video coming soon!!!! @BMWJARVO best prankster ever!!!!”

Lineker made a number of references to the incident during the coverage, describing Harvey Elliott’s winning goal as a “screamer”.

“Elliott’s goal was a screamer, not the only one we’ve had tonight,” he said, while also asking Ince: “It wasn’t you and the wife back there then?”

The BBC said in a statement: “We apologise to any viewers offended during the live coverage of the football this evening.”

Speaking to Newsnight later on, Lineker joked: “We’ve certainly got nothing to [be sorry] for,” he said as he travelled back from the match.

“If you told me this morning that tonight I’d be on Newsnight talking about a porn scandal I would have been terrified,” he laughed.

Lineker explained that he initially thought it was a guests phone but quickly realised he was being pranked, and that he found it difficult to hear the producers speaking to him through his earpiece.
