The American rapper claims the South African star “ran off” with her unreleased track “Chanel,” leaving her feeling “emotionally downcast.”
A fiery accusation of musical theft has erupted between two international artists, as American rapper Yung Miami has publicly claimed that South African singer Tyla copied her unreleased song.
The dispute began after Tyla teased her upcoming single, also titled ‘Chanel,’ on social media. Yung Miami quickly responded with allegations that the track was her own, stating she had previously played the song for Tyla.
Expressing her deep disappointment, the City Girls rapper lamented the situation in a series of online posts. “This girl really ran off with my song and I don’t know how to feel about it. Mind you, I played this song for this girl,” she shared, confirming to a fan that she was specifically referring to Tyla. The incident, she said, had left her feeling “emotionally downcast.”
The public accusation has ignited a fresh conversation among fans and industry observers about intellectual property and the complex creative relationships between African American and African artists. The central question remains: where does inspiration end and appropriation begin?
As the online debate continues to grow, Tyla has yet to publicly address or respond to the allegations.
