AC Milan Fires Head Coach Paulo Fonseca

Portuguese Manager Dismissed After Just Six Months Following Disappointing Results

AC Milan has announced the dismissal of head coach Paulo Fonseca following a 1-1 draw with Roma in Sunday’s Serie A clash. The club confirmed the decision in a statement on Monday, expressing gratitude for Fonseca’s contributions and wishing him success in future endeavors.

“AC Milan announces that Paulo Fonseca has been relieved from his duties as Head Coach of the Men’s First Team. The Club extends its gratitude to Paulo for his great professionalism and wishes him the very best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.

A Short Tenure Comes to an End

Fonseca, 51, took charge of the team in June, but his tenure lasted just six months. Milan’s performance under his leadership failed to meet expectations, with the team currently sitting in eighth place in Serie A with 27 points—14 points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Napoli.

The draw against Roma at the San Siro was the final straw for the Rossoneri’s management, as the club struggles to regain its competitive edge in both domestic and international competitions.

Champions League and Career Highlights

In the UEFA Champions League standings, Milan has fared slightly better, sitting in 12th place with 12 points after winning four of their six group-stage matches. However, the overall inconsistency in results has left fans and management dissatisfied.

Fonseca’s coaching career includes stints with notable clubs such as Portugal’s Porto and Braga, Ukraine’s Shakhtar Donetsk, Italy’s Roma, and French side Lille. Despite his track record, he was unable to steer Milan to the top-tier success expected of the club.

AC Milan has yet to announce Fonseca’s replacement, but speculation is rife about who will take the helm as the club looks to salvage the season and compete for a spot in next year’s Champions League.

As for Fonseca, his next move remains uncertain, but his extensive coaching experience suggests it won’t be long before he finds another opportunity in European football.
