Italian pundit claims the club has “become a cesspool,” while a finance expert suggests the Dutch striker could be sold without a major financial loss.
The agent of Joshua Zirkzee is facing sharp criticism for orchestrating the striker’s move to Manchester United, with one analyst accusing him of choosing money over his client’s career by sending him to a club described as a “cesspool.”
The criticism follows a dismal season for United and a personal struggle for Zirkzee. After a £36.5 million move from Bologna in the summer of 2024, the Dutch international has failed to secure a single start this season, finding himself firmly down the pecking order following United’s £200 million attacking overhaul.
Italian analyst Franco Ordine did not hold back in his assessment, drawing a stark contrast between Zirkzee’s situation and that of former United striker Rasmus Hojlund, who has found form on loan at Napoli.
“The question isn’t whether he’s a fraud or a great player, but he took the wrong path,” Ordine told TuttoMercatoWeb. “He ended up at a club that’s become a cesspool… The agent chose money instead of thinking about his client’s career.”
This scathing review comes as football finance expert Stefan Borson offered a more pragmatic view of Zirkzee’s future. While acknowledging the player’s limited role, Borson insisted Zirkzee has “not been a complete disaster” and remains a sellable asset.
“Well, he’s a very sellable player. They didn’t pay £60-70m for him,” Borson stated, suggesting clubs like Everton or West Ham could be potential suitors for a deal around £30 million. “United won’t make a big profit on it, but they won’t make a big loss. It’s just moving on a player who is outside of the core group.”
The situation leaves Zirkzee at a career crossroads, caught between damning criticism of his transfer and a practical path out of Old Trafford, should United decide to cut their losses.
