Arsenal Edge Ahead of Barcelona in Race for Alberto Moleiro as Midfield Depth Becomes Priority

The Gunners reportedly close in on the Las Palmas starlet while also eyeing Lille’s rising sensation, Ayyoub Bouaddi.

Arsenal appear to be leading Barcelona in the pursuit of highly-rated midfielder Alberto Moleiro, as the Premier League side seeks to bolster its squad depth. The 21-year-old, often compared to Barcelona star Pedri due to their similar styles and shared roots at UD Las Palmas, has attracted significant attention from Europe’s top clubs.

According to El Nacional, Barcelona had hoped to replicate their success with Pedri, who joined them from Las Palmas in 2019 for €5 million and has since become a world-class talent. However, the report suggests Arsenal is in “very advanced talks” to secure Moleiro’s transfer from Gran Canaria Stadium.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Moleiro highlights their focus on strengthening midfield options. Club captain Martin Ødegaard remains their first-choice playmaker, but an injury earlier this season exposed the need for a reliable deputy in the No.10 role. Moleiro’s development and his compatibility with possession-based football make him an appealing prospect for the Gunners.

In addition to Moleiro, Arsenal has reportedly shown interest in Lille’s 17-year-old prodigy, Ayyoub Bouaddi. The teenage midfielder has risen to prominence during the 2024/25 season, making 15 senior appearances and catching the eye of several top clubs, including Chelsea, Liverpool, and AC Milan.

Bouaddi’s performances have drawn praise from Lille head coach Bruno Genesio, who said earlier this year: “He demonstrated all the potential, all the talent he has. We know what he’s capable of. He’s a boy with a very good head on his shoulders. He has the talent to play at this level. He needs to keep proving himself.”

With Arsenal already in advanced discussions for Moleiro and monitoring Bouaddi’s development, the North London club is making clear strides to secure its future with young, dynamic midfield talents.
