Arteta Eyes Nico Williams and Mikel Merino for Summer Transfers
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is keen on signing two standout players from Spain’s impressive Euro 2024 squad, according to The Athletic.

Arteta has set his sights on Athletic Bilbao winger Nico Williams and Real Sociedad midfielder Mikel Merino.
Nico Williams, 21, has been a sensation at the tournament, dazzling fans with his speed and dribbling skills.
His standout performances in wins against Croatia, Italy, and Georgia have caught the attention of top clubs, including Barcelona and Chelsea. Williams has a €58 million release clause in his contract, and Arteta has urged Arsenal to go all-in for the talented winger.
Williams was particularly impressive against Italy, where he outperformed right-back Giovanni Di Lorenzo and set up the winning own goal by Riccardo Calafiori. He also scored a fantastic goal in the last-16 victory over Georgia.
In addition to Williams, Arteta admires 28-year-old midfielder Mikel Merino, who has played a crucial role off the bench for Spain.
Merino scored a dramatic 119th-minute header to secure victory over Germany in the quarterfinals. Although he has not been a regular starter, his impact has been significant, and he is expected to be available for transfer this summer.
Meanwhile, Arsenal is set to complete the signing of Riccardo Calafiori, Italy’s best outfield player at the Euros. The Gunners have agreed on a deal with Bologna for the centre-back, with a transfer fee of around €50 million and personal terms already accepted.
