Transfer Gossip: Arsenal plan to use player in audacious swoop for PSG star; Man Utd, Chelsea get £100m chance

Arsenal are set to make an offer Kylian Mbappe involving a player, while a contract stalemate gives Manchester United and Chelsea a chance of landing a top target…

MBAPPE TO ARSENAL?
Arsenal could use Gabriel Martinelli in a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe this summer, according to reports.

The latest news that PSG want to sell Mbappe as soon as possible after the French club put him on the market in an attempt to cash in on the France international before his contract runs out next summer.

PSG are understood to feel betrayed by Mbappe as they are convinced he has already signed a pre-contract agreement to join Real Madrid at the end of his contract in 12 months’ time.

It has sent the rumour mill into meltdown with a number of Premier League clubs linked with a move, as well as Saudi Arabian sides.

And the latest comes from Football Transfers, who claim that Arsenal are ‘keeping a close eye on’ Mbappe ‘and may use Gabriel Martinelli as a makeweight to sign the Frenchman in 2024’.

Mbappe ‘admires the club and the project on offer’ at the Emirates Stadium but there are still ‘doubts that the Gunners would be able to secure the move’.

The report adds that Arsenal ‘have a package for Mbappe but know any move for the superstar would either come in January next year or the subsequent summer transfer window’.

When asked about interest in Mbappe, Arteta told reporters yesterday: “You know I never talk about players that don’t play for our club. I’m sorry”.”

Fabrizio Romano has explained Mbappe’s current situation at PSG in more detail, he wrote in his Caught Offside column: “Kylian Mbappe’s future is now in his hands – there’s no specific deadline for a deal to be done, because it’s Kylian who decides. PSG have made very clear that Mbappe is on the market, and they want to find a solution as soon as possible.

“I’m not aware of any concrete talk with any other club. The reality is that from Saudi they want to try with a record bid, but all parties involved know very well that Real Madrid are the favourite destination of Kylian. Real Madrid are keeping it quiet but they’re still waiting for PSG to communicate clear price tag for Kylian this summer.

“Nothing will be decided on technical issues like Mbappe being in PSG’s Champions League squad yet, but the plan is that PSG don’t want to play Mbappe or other players not in their plans during the season.

“If Mbappe decides to stay until the end of his contract, he will stay on the bench the whole season – this is the intention as of today. They are encouraging clubs to bid and they are suggesting to him to find a solution this summer.

“There is nothing concrete with Saudi clubs at the moment, but they will try an astronomical, world-record bid for Mbappe. Still, they know, as does everyone else around the world, that in Mbappe’s mind, it’s Real Madrid.”

Victor Osimhen, Napoli, May 2023

RAY OF HOPE FOR MAN UTD, CHELSEA
It is believed that Victor Osimhen’s contract negotiations with Napoli remain at a stalemate this summer, according to reports in Italy.

The 24-year-old scored 26 goals in 32 Serie A appearances for the Italian side last term as Napoli won their first Scudetto in 33 years in a rampant title charge.

And that sparkling form has earned the Nigeria international many suitors across Europe with a number of elite clubs looking for a proven goalscorer this summer.

Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has always put clubs off with his huge asking price for the striker of €160m, although that figure could drop if Osimhen angles for a move.

The Serie A side have been trying to tie Osimhen down to fresh terms but Italian publication Corriere dello Sport insist talks between the striker’s representatives and Napoli remain at a standstill.

And that could open the door to Man Utd or Chelsea with both the Premier League clubs interested in Osimhen and looking for a striker this summer.

One of the main stumbling blocks is Osimhen’s release clause with Napoli wanting to set it at £173m but the striker thinks £100m is enough.
