Arsenal Pursuing Jurrien Timber as Defensive Reinforcements

Arsenal Football Club is actively pursuing Ajax’s talented defender Jurrien Timber, with reports suggesting that terms have already been discussed and agreed upon. According to sources in the Netherlands, Arsenal and Timber have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract, indicating a potential move to the Emirates Stadium.

The news of Arsenal’s interest in Timber was revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein, who disclosed that the Gunners had submitted a £30 million bid for the Ajax center-back. The club is hopeful that a compromise can be reached, considering that Timber has just two years remaining on his current contract, putting Ajax in a vulnerable position and making a sale this summer a realistic possibility.

Mikel Arteta, Arsenal’s manager, is actively seeking a right-sided defender who possesses versatility and the ability to contribute in midfield. Timber fits the desired profile, and it seems that the player is already aware of the potential terms offered by Arsenal. According to De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, new Ajax boss Maurice Steijn has been informed that Timber could leave if a top club comes calling, and the report suggests that the Dutch defender has agreed to a long-term contract with Arsenal.

The report states, “According to sources around Ajax, the player himself already has an indication of what he can earn at Arsenal and there is an agreement on a multi-year commitment. But first, it’s up to the clubs.” This unexpected development may bring a sense of déjà vu for Arsenal fans, reminiscent of their pursuit of Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez in the past, with a similar transfer fee of £30 million. However, on that occasion, Ajax demanded closer to £50 million, which Arsenal declined to pay. Martinez subsequently joined Manchester United.

In addition to Timber, Arsenal is reportedly making progress in their pursuit of other targets, including Declan Rice and Kai Havertz. As for Timber, he is valued at €42 million, indicating the potential financial investment required to secure his services.

As the negotiations progress, Arsenal fans eagerly await official confirmation of Timber’s potential arrival, hoping that he can provide a much-needed boost to the team’s defensive capabilities in the upcoming season.
