Arsenal’s Riccardo Calafiori Suffers Unusual Injury in Italy’s Win Over France (Video)

Defender reacts to bizarre collision during international clash

Arsenal defender Riccardo Calafiori took to social media to express his thoughts after suffering an unusual injury during Italy’s 3-1 victory over France on Friday. Calafiori, who has been in excellent form, started the match and delivered a strong performance before being forced off after a freak accident involving French winger Ousmane Dembele.

The incident occurred when Italy’s Alessandro Bastoni tackled Dembele, sending the Frenchman flying. As Dembele rolled on the ground, his boot accidentally caught Calafiori’s calf, studs first. The Arsenal player, who wasn’t directly involved in the play, fell to the ground in visible pain, clutching his leg.

Despite trying to continue, the 22-year-old had to be substituted five minutes later, a potential concern for Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ahead of the upcoming North London derby against Tottenham.

After the match, Calafiori posted images from the game on social media, captioning them: “What a performance, what a night!”

Italy’s head coach, Luciano Spalletti, expressed hope that the defender would be fit for the team’s next match, saying, “We need to assess Riccardo, but with our staff, we’ve a good chance to have him back with us for the next game.”

Calafiori, who joined Arsenal this summer in a £42 million move from Bologna, has yet to start for his new club but has made two substitute appearances. Arteta praised the defender upon his arrival, stating, “Riccardo is a big personality and character, with specific skills which will make us stronger as we push to win major trophies.”
