Barcelona Puts Lamine Yamal on Media Lockdown After El Clásico Fallout

The young star’s pre-match taunts, blamed for motivating rivals Real Madrid, have prompted the club to shield him from the spotlight and cancel public appearances.

In the wake of a heated El Clásico defeat, Barcelona has taken decisive action to protect its teenage sensation, Lamine Yamal, by temporarily pulling him from the public eye. The decision comes after the 16-year-old’s inflammatory comments about Real Madrid in the days leading up to the match sparked a firestorm of criticism, including from his own teammates.

Ahead of the crucial fixture, Yamal appeared on a popular show and claimed that Real Madrid’s modus operandi is to “steal and complain.” The bold taunt backfired spectacularly. After Real Madrid’s 2-1 victory, their players, including Dani Carvajal and Vinicius Junior, made pointed gestures toward the young winger in a clear retaliation.

The consequences of his words were felt internally as well. Teammate Raphinha did not mince words after the final whistle, stating, “He was guilty of being young and lacking maturity to say what he said. His words gave Real Madrid extra motivation.”

As a result, the club has now intervened. Barcelona has cancelled Yamal’s scheduled promotional event for OPPO and blocked a planned interview with Sky Italia. According to reports, the club has communicated with his agents that “it wasn’t the right time” for such appearances, aiming to let the controversy subside.

Despite the need for damage control, those within the club still see his immense potential. Teammate Iñaki Peña offered a more supportive perspective, praising Yamal’s competitive fire in training and even suggesting that, talent-wise, he is currently the best in the world. For now, however, Barcelona’s priority is clear: to let their prodigious talent’s football do the talking, not his pre-match provocations.
