Bill Gates to Visit Niger and Nigeria, Engage in Discussions on Global Health and Development

Bill Gates, co-chair of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, is scheduled to visit Niger and Nigeria next week, following his recent trip to China. The purpose of the visit is to engage in discussions with national and local leaders, foundation partners, grantees, scientists, and young innovators on matters of global health and development.

According to a statement released by the foundation, this visit exemplifies the foundation’s commitment to collaborating closely with communities and leaders to foster innovation that can accelerate progress and enhance lives across Africa.

During the visit, Gates and other foundation leaders aim to learn from various partners who are actively addressing challenges such as polio, anemia, and other health threats. They will also engage with scientists working on agricultural innovations to improve food security and climate adaptation. Additionally, they will interact with innovators who are leveraging technology to enhance access to financial services and meet other individuals dedicated to improving lives in Niger, Nigeria, and throughout the continent.

The statement further highlights that Gates and his team will meet with national and regional leaders to advocate for investments and policies that foster innovation and provide equitable opportunities, despite prevailing challenging economic conditions.

As part of his visit, Gates will participate in a conversation with students and young leaders, gathering insights and exchanging perspectives on how science and innovation can expedite positive change and contribute to a brighter future for Africa.

The highlight of the visit will be a moderated event titled “Advancing Africa: Unleashing the Power of Youth in Science and Innovation,” taking place in Lagos on June 21. Co-hosted by the Co-Creation Hub Nigeria and Lagos Business School, the event will be livestreamed across Africa, offering an opportunity for a broader audience to benefit from the discussions.
