With ‘No Sign of Weakness’ Nod, the Afrofusion Star Cements His Global Legacy and Leads a Wave of Nigerian Talent

Nigerian superstar Burna Boy has once again shattered records, securing his place in the music history books as the first Nigerian artist to ever earn five Grammy nominations in album categories. His latest project, No Sign of Weakness (2025), has been nominated for Best Global Music Album, marking a significant career milestone for the acclaimed singer.

This historic nomination further cements the Afrofusion pioneer’s dominance on the world stage. His journey to this point has been a steady climb of critical acclaim, with previous albums African Giant, Twice As Tall, Love, Damini, and I Told Them all receiving Grammy recognition. This fifth nod makes him the most consistently celebrated Nigerian artist in the awards’ album categories.

The celebration doesn’t stop there. Burna Boy also earned a second nomination for the year, this time in the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category for his track “Love.” He finds himself in excellent company, as the category is a showcase of Nigerian talent, featuring fellow stars Davido (for “With You” featuring Omah Lay) and Ayra Starr & Wizkid (for “Gimme Dat”).

These nominations collectively underscore the powerful and growing influence of African music on the global scene, with Nigerian artists firmly at the forefront. The lineup for Best Global Music Album also highlights this international flavor, featuring works from legends like Senegal’s Youssou N’Dour and Brazil’s Caetano Veloso and Maria Bethânia.

The winners for the 2025 Grammy Awards will be announced next year in Los Angeles, with the world watching to see if Burna Boy can add another golden gramophone to his collection.
