Nigerian-British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua is set to take on Robert Helenius following the cancellation of his scheduled fight against Dylian Whyte.
The anticipated clash between Joshua and Whyte, originally planned for August 12 at London’s 02 Arena, was called off due to a positive result in Whyte’s random anti-doping test. The Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) informed Matchroom, the Association of Boxing Commissions, and the British Boxing Board of Control about the adverse analytical findings, leading to the cancellation of the bout.
Matchroom issued a statement on their official Twitter account, stating, “In light of this news, the fight will be canceled, and a full investigation will be conducted. Further information on the event will follow.”
In response to the turn of events, Anthony Joshua expressed his willingness to face Robert Helenius as a replacement opponent. Speaking to Sky Sports, Joshua shared his respect for Helenius and his commitment to delivering a winning performance in the ring. He stated, “I can make steps forward to bigger and better things but the road map has a check point, Saturday night. May the best man win.”
Helenius, a 39-year-old British fighter, also expressed his excitement about the upcoming match against Joshua. He showcased his determination to embrace challenges and seize opportunities, stating, “I am excited about fighting Anthony Joshua on August 12. I am a true Viking that is willing to face any challenge at a moment’s notice. This is not an opportunity I was going to let slip away. I plan to make the most of it.”
As the boxing world eagerly awaits this unexpected showdown between Anthony Joshua and Robert Helenius, the spotlight remains on the two fighters as they prepare to deliver an unforgettable match in the ring.
