A viral collaboration with the Afrobeats icon, featuring surprise calls to a football star and a fan’s on-air challenge, rockets the Nigerian creator to a new record.
Nigerian content creator and musician Carter Efe has claimed the title of Africa’s most-followed streamer on Twitch, shattering the previous record in a whirlwind 24 hours fueled by a blockbuster livestream with global superstar Davido.
The historic collaboration on Wednesday night sent Efe’s follower count soaring. Overnight, his audience ballooned from roughly 322,000 to over 406,000, eclipsing the previous record of about 233,000 held by fellow Nigerian streamer Shank Comics. The stream itself also set a new African benchmark, drawing a peak of approximately 83,000 concurrent viewers.
“It was more than just a stream; it was a cultural moment,” one fan commented online, capturing the event’s electric atmosphere. Davido, true to his superstar status, turned the session into a virtual party line. He connected Efe with his wife, celebrity nightlife figure Cubana Chief Priest, and even managed to get Twitch CEO Dan Clancy on the radar.
The surprises kept coming when Davido dialed up Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen. The lively chat between the musician and the football star created a thrilling crossover for fans of Nigerian music and sports.
The stream took an unexpectedly chaotic turn when fellow content creator Enzo crashed the party, challenging Efe to an impromptu boxing match right then and there to “prove” his loyalty to Davido’s fan base—a moment that quickly went viral across social media platforms.
This surge has not only made Carter Efe the continent’s follower leader but also cemented him as the first African streamer to surpass 20,000 paying subscribers on the platform. The milestone highlights the growing power of African digital creators and the massive audience reach of the continent’s top music acts.
