Atletico Madrid Set Price as Chelsea Seek Striking Reinforcements
Reports have emerged that Atletico Madrid have set their price for forward Samu Omorodion, following a rejected £42m bid from Premier League giants Chelsea.
Chelsea, on the lookout for a new striker this summer, hope to find a suitable partner for Nicolas Jackson. While they have shown interest in high-profile targets like Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, they are also exploring more affordable options.
Although Napoli might offer a discount for Osimhen in a potential swap deal, Omorodion remains a cheaper alternative. The Spain U21 international joined Atletico Madrid for around £6m from Granada last summer and had a successful loan spell at Deportivo Alaves, scoring eight goals in 35 appearances.
Journalist Nicolo Schira revealed that Chelsea have already proposed a long-term contract to Omorodion. Schira tweeted, “Chelsea have offered Samu Omorodion a contract until 2031 with a salary of €2.5M/year + bonuses for the first season, increasing to €6M/year in the final season (2030/31). He remains a key target for Chelsea.”
The Sun reports that Chelsea’s £42m bid was rejected, with Atletico Madrid holding out for at least £70m. Despite the high asking price, Chelsea’s management, led by Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, see Omorodion as a promising talent with significant potential. New head coach Enzo Maresca supports the pursuit, emphasizing the need for an additional striker to challenge Nicolas Jackson.
Chelsea have considered other options like Alexander Isak from Newcastle and Jhon Duran from Aston Villa but shifted their focus to Omorodion. Red Bull Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko and Bournemouth’s Dominic Solanke were deemed too expensive.
This bid follows Chelsea’s recent decision to withdraw from negotiations with Newcastle over Isak, as reported by SunSport.
