Triple Transfer Domino Involving Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester City Nears Completion

€145 Million Deal Set to See Three Star Players Switch Clubs

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that a major three-way transfer involving Atletico Madrid, Chelsea, and Manchester City is expected to be finalized today, with €145 million exchanging hands between the clubs for three star players.

Julian Alvarez is set to leave Manchester City for Atletico Madrid in a deal worth around €70 million. Alvarez will fill the void left by Samu Omorodion, who is set to join Chelsea for €35 million. Heading to Atletico Madrid from Chelsea will be midfielder Conor Gallagher, for €40 million.

Romano reports that Gallagher will travel to Madrid on Tuesday to complete his move to Atletico, with the green light for travel expected once the deals for Omorodion and Alvarez are verbally confirmed. This will trigger the completion of the high-profile transfers.

Alvarez, dissatisfied with his limited playing time at Manchester City, had requested to leave the club. The Argentine forward declined a new contract offer and expressed his desire to move on in recent days, which has now been granted.

Gallagher’s transfer to Atletico Madrid has been in the works for some time. Chelsea decided to sell him for several financial reasons:

  1. After two years of record spending, Chelsea needs to sell players to balance the books.
  2. Gallagher is one of the few players with significant interest who can guarantee a substantial profit.
  3. Gallagher’s contract at Stamford Bridge expires in 2025, and Chelsea cannot afford to lose him on a free transfer.

Additionally, Gallagher is not seen as a fit for new Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s possession-based football philosophy.

Omorodion, at the age of 20, is the latest young talent to join Chelsea during the Todd Boehly era. He scored eight goals in 34 games on loan at Alaves last season.
