Justice rules claims of rights violation unsubstantiated.
A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a lawsuit filed by popular crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, widely known as Bobrisky, against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). The case, which sought over N1.2 billion in damages, centered on allegations of harassment and rights violations.
Bobrisky had demanded N200 million for alleged psychotic trauma and an additional N1 billion from the National Assembly for purportedly infringing on his right to a fair hearing. He also sought an injunction to prevent further harassment or detention by the EFCC and the National Assembly.
The suit followed allegations made by social media influencer Martins Otse, who, in a leaked audio recording, claimed Bobrisky paid the EFCC N15 million to settle money laundering charges against him.
In delivering the judgment, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims were baseless and unsupported by credible evidence.
“Having evaluated the evidence placed before this Court by the Applicant, it is evident that the Applicant has failed to provide credible evidence to justify the award of the declaratory and injunctive reliefs sought by him,” the judge stated.
Justice Owoeye further held that the allegations of fundamental rights violations lacked merit and dismissed the suit in its entirety. Bobrisky’s request for damages was also denied, with the judge noting that the claims were unsubstantiated.
Dele Oyewale, the EFCC’s spokesperson, confirmed the court’s ruling, reinforcing the agency’s position that it had acted within the law.
This judgment marks a significant setback for Bobrisky, who had positioned the case as a challenge to perceived injustice and overreach by authorities.
