Singer Explains His Custody Demands on Instagram
Amid backlash for seeking joint custody of his 8-year-old daughter Imade, Nigerian singer Davido took to Instagram to clarify his intentions. In his Instagram story, he explained the difference between joint and sole custody, emphasizing that he is not seeking sole custody.
“Joint Custody means both parents will have access to the child, while Sole Custody means only one parent will have access,” Davido wrote.
The controversy began when Davido filed a suit for joint custody, accusing his first babymama, Sophia, of denying him access to their daughter and extorting money. Sophia responded, denying his claims and revealing that Davido had not attempted to see Imade and had abandoned her because she refused to have sex with him.
In the ongoing custody battle, Sophia filed a 102-paragraph affidavit opposing Davido’s request for joint custody. She cited the death of his son Ifeanyi, his controversial lifestyle, and his alleged use of their daughter to retaliate against her.
Davido reacted, expressing how Sophia repeatedly brings up the death of his son to remind him of the tragedy. He stated that his daughter would grow up knowing he fought for her.
The tension between Davido and Sophia escalated after Davido publicly declared his love for his now-wife, Chioma Rowland, and reunited with her. This angered Sophia, who accused him of financial abuse and shared a cryptic post about a cat not taking rubbish from a dog.
