Afrobeats superstar Davido has received a major new accolade, but this one comes with a responsibility. The Nigerian singer, born David Adeleko, has been officially welcomed as a voting member of the Recording Academy, the organization behind the Grammy Awards.

This prestigious appointment means the “Feel” singer will now have a direct hand in deciding the nominees and winners for the Grammy Awards, starting with the 2026 ceremony. The news comes on the heels of his own breakout year at the Grammys, where he earned three nominations in 2024.

The Recording Academy made the announcement in a social media video Tuesday, featuring Davido among a diverse group of new inductees. The post highlighted the dedication it takes to create music and emphasized why the participation of members matters.

Speaking on this career milestone, Davido expressed his honor and enthusiasm. “Understanding the importance of how our voices are heard, I am participating in the GRAMMY Award process. It is a game-changer,” he said. “I have learned that voting empowers you to have a say… I am honoured to be part of the Recording Academy community, and I look forward to voting.”

His inclusion is seen as a significant step in the Academy’s continued efforts to diversify its membership and amplify global voices, particularly from the thriving African music scene.
