Afrobeats Sensation to Headline Iconic NYC Venue on April 17, 2024, as Part of North American Arena Dates
In an exclusive announcement, Billboard reveals that Afrobeats superstar Davido will make his debut performance at New York City’s Madison Square Garden next spring. The highly anticipated concert is scheduled for April 17, 2024, and is set to be a highlight of Davido’s extended Timeless Tour. Produced by Duke Concept, the tour will include three new North American arena dates, kicking off with the Madison Square Garden show, followed by performances at Montreal’s Place Bell on April 19 and Orlando’s Additional Financial Arena on April 24.
Davido’s upcoming Madison Square Garden performance follows in the footsteps of other major Nigerian acts, underscoring the global recognition of Afrobeats. Notable precedents include Burna Boy’s historic stint in April 2022 and Wizkid’s concert in November 2022, solidifying the genre’s prominence on the international stage.
In a statement to Billboard, Davido expressed his excitement, saying, “Seven years ago, I walked past Madison Square Garden and looked at it and said, ‘We gonna come back and shut this down.’ So to be here now, able to play Madison Square Garden, in New York, one of the first cities and fans to embrace my music, at this iconic venue … it’s a dream come true.”
As the anticipation builds for the historic event, Davido’s achievements continue to garner attention on a global scale. The artist has received nominations for Best African Music Performance for his summer hit “Unavailable” with Musa Keys and Best Global Music Album for his fourth studio album, Timeless, ahead of the 2024 Grammy Awards. Released on March 31, 2023, via Davido Music Worldwide, Timeless reached No. 37 on the Billboard 200 and No. 2 on World Albums. The title track, “Timeless,” secured impressive rankings, reaching No. 3 on both U.S. Afrobeats Songs and World Digital Song Sales.
