Singer Responds to Internet Criticism, Wizkid’s Vacation Plans, and Stereotyping in Afrobeat Genre
Nigerian music sensation David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has caused a stir on the internet by announcing his intention to step away from the music industry.
The singer’s decision came in response to a viral photoshopped image circulating online, where Davido expressed frustration at the constant pressure from some quarters for him to exit the music scene. In a tweet, he declared that after releasing his next album, he would retire from music to give his critics the peace they desire.
Davido’s tweet read: “Yall niggas really want me out the game that bad ?? Oya, after next album I no do again . So una fit get peace.”
He also expressed his disdain for the blog responsible for spreading the manipulated image, stating, “Nah, God, go punish THE SHADE BOROUGH.”
This announcement comes amidst a backdrop of similar sentiments from his rival, Wizkid, who recently faced pressure from fans demanding new music. Wizkid, in response, revealed plans for a 4-year hiatus to enjoy the fruits of his labor, hinting at potential career shifts into sports like playing ball, golf, or wrestling.
