Music Star Reportedly Forgoes His 40% Cut to Support Rising Artist’s Family Needs
A surprising revelation about Davido’s contract with his signee, Morravey, has gone viral, showcasing the Afrobeats star’s unexpected generosity.
According to a social media user, the “Awuke” crooner, whose real name is David Adeleke, has been giving his protégé 100% of her music earnings—despite their contract initially stating she would receive only 40%.
In a circulating video, a woman explained that Davido made this decision because he believed Morravey (real name Daniella Ibinabo Daniel) needed the money more than he did to support her family.
“Which record label does this for their artists?” the woman questioned, sparking widespread reactions online.
Davido signed Morravey under his DMW label in 2022 and released her debut EP, “Ravi,” in 2023. While industry standards often see labels taking a significant cut from artists’ earnings, this alleged gesture has drawn praise for the superstar.
The claim comes weeks after Davido faced criticism from fellow artist Radiogad, making his reported act of kindness a talking point among fans.
Neither Davido nor Morravey has publicly confirmed the details, but if true, it sets a rare and heartwarming precedent in Nigeria’s competitive music industry.
