Mason Greenwood ‘doesn’t know which way to turn’ after Manchester United dumping, while Liverpool are ‘desperate’ to sign two players…
ALBANIA CALLING
Mason Greenwood is mulling over a potential move to Albanian after his Manchester United dumping has left him with very few options, according to reports.
The 21-year-old has been suspended by the club since January 30, 2022 over allegations relating to a young woman after images and videos were posted online.
Greenwood was facing charges including attempted rape and assault until the Crown Prosecution Service announced six and a half months ago that the case had been discontinued.
The forward remained suspended by Man Utd throughout that period and the club announced on Monday it had been mutually agreed he would leave following an internal investigation.
Clubs in the free-spending Saudi Pro League have been strongly linked with the one-cap England international but Steven Gerrard has rubbished speculation that he could join his side Al-Ettifaq.
The former Rangers and Aston Villa manager labelled a story saying his team were considering offering the 21-year-old a deal as “fake news”, while it has been reported a move for the player is seen as too risky by Saudi clubs.
Teams in Turkey and Italy have been linked with Greenwood, who is under contract until 2025, with the option of a further year, and is understood to remain on full pay.
The Sun claim that Greenwood has been left ‘devastated’ by the Premier League club’s ‘decision to dump him’ and it has ‘left him mulling over an offer from a club in Albania’.
Clubs initially interested are ‘now re-thinking their plans as they consider whether any public backlash they are likely to receive if they sign him is worth it’.
A source told The Sun: “Mason always wanted to re-start his career at the highest level possible.
“He hoped and believed it would be with United. The strength of feeling has now left him worried if he will ever play in the top leagues again.
“Playing in somewhere like Albania was never part of his plans, ever.”
KLOPP WANTS TWO MORE
Liverpool are ‘desperate’ to bring in two more signings before the end of the summer transfer window, according to reports.
Deals for Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai were sorted out early on in the transfer window with Jurgen Klopp looking to cover the losses of James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
But the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho saw Liverpool sign Wataru Endo from Stuttgart in an £18m deal last week.
And Football Insider claims that the Reds are ‘desperate to add a centre-back and central midfielder before next week’s 1 September transfer deadline’.
The Liverpool recruitment team and Klopp are ‘keen to improve their side even further with a defensive upgrade and reinforcement in the middle of the park’.
Football Insider touch on Liverpool’s interest in Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch with the Bavarians previously ‘unwilling to sell’ – but it’s understood they ‘have softened that stance in recent days’.
While Liverpool have ‘seen an approach for a top centre-back target blocked’ with Bayer Leverkusen telling the Reds that Piero Hincapie is ‘not for sale’.
