Douglas Luiz Sparks Outrage After Skipping Juventus Training to Force Premier League Return

Brazilian Midfielder Faces Heavy Fine as Italian Pundits Condemn His “Disrespectful” Behavior

Juventus midfielder Douglas Luiz has caused an uproar in Italy after refusing to report for pre-season training in an attempt to push through a return to the Premier League. The Brazilian, who endured a disappointing debut season in Turin, is now desperate to leave the club, but his drastic approach has drawn sharp criticism.

A Deal Gone Wrong

Luiz joined Juventus in 2024 in a complex transfer primarily driven by financial necessity. Aston Villa, needing to balance their books, offloaded the midfielder—once valued at over €100 million—in a deal that included two players, Enzo Barrenechea and Samuel Iling-Junior. However, both were quickly loaned out, and Luiz struggled to find his place at Juventus, making the move a failure for all parties involved.

Desperate Measures

Now, Luiz has taken matters into his own hands. According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the 26-year-old has gone AWOL, risking a substantial fine in hopes of securing an exit.

“The relationship between the player and the club is completely broken,” Romano revealed. “Juventus will take disciplinary action, but Luiz is determined to leave. Several Premier League clubs have already inquired about him—this could become a major market opportunity.”

Manchester United and Chelsea were previously linked with Luiz, and Juventus even offered him in swap deals for Antony and Jadon Sancho. However, no agreement was reached, leaving the door open for other English clubs.

Italian Outrage

Luiz’s actions have ignited a fierce debate in Italy. Former England manager Fabio Capello believes Juventus misused the midfielder, predicting he will “explode” at his next club. Others, however, have been far less sympathetic.

Ex-goalkeeper Massimo Taibi blasted Luiz’s behavior, stating: “I would hurt him economically—a professional can’t act like this. If he were in my squad, I’d kick his backside.” Meanwhile, TMW Radio host Arturo Di Napoli called it “malpractice,” and former Juventus executive France Ceravolo suggested Luiz may already have an agreement with another club.

Premier League Interest

Despite the backlash, Luiz could soon get his wish. Reports from Gazzetta dello Sport indicate Everton and West Ham are leading the race for his signature, with the Toffees currently favorites.

As the saga unfolds, one thing is clear: Douglas Luiz’s time in Italy is ending in chaos—and his next move could be just as dramatic.
