Popular Crossdresser Apprehended at Pinnock Estate, Lagos, to Face Charges Soon
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has officially confirmed the arrest of renowned crossdresser, Idris Okuneye, famously known as Bobrisky. Reports indicate that the arrest took place at Pinnock Estate in Lagos State on April 3, 2024, around 3 pm.
The spokesperson for the EFCC, Mr. Dele Oyewale, confirmed the reason behind Bobrisky’s arrest, citing currency mutilation and abuse of the Naira. Oyewale stated that Bobrisky is currently in the EFCC facility in Lagos and is expected to be charged to court in due course. In his statement, Oyewale remarked:
“He is with us. We arrested him over currency mutilation and abuse of Naira. He is in our facility in Lagos State.”
This development follows closely after the recent remarks by Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police spokesperson, who explained why individuals like Bobrisky and James Brown, along with other crossdressers, cannot be arrested. Adejobi highlighted the complexity of the situation, emphasizing that while cross-dressing is not explicitly prohibited by law in Nigeria, being queer is deemed unlawful.
Adejobi clarified that without concrete evidence linking cross-dressers to the LGBTQ community, legal action cannot be pursued. He further noted the challenges of bringing such cases to court, emphasizing the lack of substantial grounds for prosecution.
