Erik ten Hag on the Brink of Manchester United Exit, Simone Inzaghi Touted as Replacement

Struggling Red Devils Eye Inter Milan Boss Amid Poor Start to Season

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly on the verge of being sacked, with the club already identifying Inter Milan’s Simone Inzaghi as his potential replacement. Ten Hag, who came under pressure last season after United’s disappointing eighth-place finish in the Premier League, now faces renewed scrutiny following a lackluster start to the current campaign.

Simone Inzaghi

Despite guiding United to an FA Cup victory over rivals Manchester City last season, Ten Hag’s position has become precarious after a series of underwhelming performances. United managed wins against Fulham and Southampton this season, but losses to Brighton and Liverpool, along with a goalless draw against Crystal Palace, have left them languishing in the bottom half of the table.

Reports from Spain suggest that Manchester United’s board is already “monitoring” several managers, with Inzaghi emerging as the leading candidate. The Italian coach, who is currently committed to Inter Milan until at least the end of the season, is reportedly being viewed as a long-term solution to bring United back to the top of European football.

“Although United’s interest in Inzaghi is evident, the deal would not be straightforward,” one report stated. It added that while the club is prepared to wait until the end of the season, the board is convinced that Inzaghi’s style of play and management could be crucial to reviving the team’s fortunes.

Ten Hag signed a new contract with Manchester United until 2026 after receiving support from the club’s hierarchy, including Sir Jim Ratcliffe. However, his future is now under serious threat as patience at Old Trafford appears to be running out.

The pressure on Ten Hag will only intensify as United begin their Europa League campaign on Wednesday against Dutch side FC Twente, followed by a crucial Premier League clash against Tottenham Hotspur. For now, the Dutchman remains in charge, but growing reports suggest his tenure could soon be coming to an end.
