Norwegian Striker Scores Consecutive Premier League Hat-Tricks, Helping Man City Extend Unbeaten Run
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland equaled a remarkable record set by Harry Kane after scoring a hat-trick in Saturday’s 3-1 victory against West Ham United. Haaland opened the scoring in the 10th minute with a clinical finish into the bottom corner, but West Ham quickly responded with a Ruben Dias own goal that leveled the match.
However, Haaland restored City’s lead with a powerful strike before halftime and sealed the win with his third goal in the 83rd minute, expertly timing his run to beat the offside trap and slotting the ball past substitute goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski.
This hat-trick marked Haaland’s second consecutive three-goal performance, following his impressive display against newly-promoted Ipswich Town last weekend. With this achievement, Haaland joined Kane as the only players in Premier League history to have scored back-to-back hat-tricks on two separate occasions.
Haaland previously accomplished this feat in August 2022, netting hat-tricks in a 4-2 victory over Crystal Palace and a 6-0 win against Nottingham Forest. Kane first achieved this milestone during Tottenham’s 2016-17 season, scoring hat-tricks against Leicester City and Hull City, and repeated it in the 2017-18 season with trebles against Burnley and Southampton.
Haaland’s latest hat-trick also propelled him to seven goals for the season, the most by any player in the opening three Premier League matches. His prolific form has contributed to Manchester City’s perfect start to the campaign, extending their winning streak to 12 consecutive Premier League games and their unbeaten run to 26 top-flight matches since a defeat to Aston Villa in December.
Manchester City will next look to continue their fine form in a home match against Brentford after the international break.
